Serving with a Victor’s mindset

As Christians, it is self destructive to entertain a victim’s mindset. You are only permitted to view yourself the way God sees and defines you.
Yes, we will go through challenges that contradict how God has defined us and sometimes, we will fight battles that seem as if we are against the world but our mindset is what will determine the outcome of every challenge that we face. Do not let a challenge or moment of victimisation determine your mindset.
How have you been defined by God. What does he call you? How does he feel when he looks at you?
No one is perfect. But God does not define us by our mistakes.

There is no doubt that we have been victims in certain aspects of our lives, but the truth is that God does not want this to influence our mindset.
This is our season of double honour and our mindset has to be channeled towards victory.
Before we move into the main part of the session, we need to address some issues in prayer.

  • I REPENT OF EVERY LIE I HAVE TOLD MYSELF- every negative names you may have called yourself at your low points. Because you have failed an exam or test a few times does not deem you a failure. You are who God says you are.
  • DELIVER ME FROM EVERY LIE I HAVE TOLD MYSELF
  • DELIVER ME FROM EVERY LIE THE ENEMY IS SPEAKING AGAINST ME

“But you, God, see the trouble of the afflicted; you consider their grief and take it in hand. The victims commit themselves to you; you are the helper of the fatherless.”‭‭Psalms‬ ‭10:14‬ ‭NIV‬‬

  • I REFUSE TO ALLOW THE TRAUMA OF MY PAST VICTIMISE MY PRESENT AND FUTURE IJN- what has the past taken from you? What baggage has it added to your now.
  • OH LORD, REMOVE EVERY DISTORTED VISION OR WRONG PERCEPTION OF MY TRUE IDENTITY IJN
  • I LET GO OF EVERY EPISODE OF THE PAST VICTIMISING MY FUTURE IJN

There is a line between humility and a victim mentality, define it. Let’s look at the story of Moses.
“Moses said to the Lord, “Pardon your servant, Lord. I have never been eloquent, neither in the past nor since you have spoken to your servant. I am slow of speech and tongue.” The Lord said to him, “Who gave human beings their mouths? Who makes them deaf or mute? Who gives them sight or makes them blind? Is it not I, the Lord? Now go; I will help you speak and will teach you what to say.” But Moses said, “Pardon your servant, Lord. Please send someone else.” Then the Lord’s anger burned against Moses and he said, “What about your brother, Aaron the Levite? I know he can speak well. He is already on his way to meet you, and he will be glad to see you. You shall speak to him and put words in his mouth; I will help both of you speak and will teach you what to do. He will speak to the people for you, and it will be as if he were your mouth and as if you were God to him. But take this staff in your hand so you can perform the signs with it.””‭‭Exodus‬ ‭4:10-17‬ ‭NIV‬‬
God knew Moses even before he was born, just like he knew us before we were conceived, he knew his purpose for Moses even when Moses was a brother to pharaoh and when the time to call Moses came, Moses found every excuse in the book to evade this purpose. He even began to use his own shortcomings as an excuse. This is a victim mentality. But thank God that on this occasion, there was an Aaron available to speak for Moses. The bible says, God’s anger burned towards Moses.God said to Moses, take this staff in your hand- so you can perform the signs with it. The staff represents a mantle, a covering of honour.

  • I RECEIVE THE MANTLE OF UTTERANCE TO GAIN VICTORY OVER EVERY EGYPTIAN TERRORISING MY PEACE AND COMFORT
  • I RECEIVE THE MANTLE OF AUTHORITY TO DISPLAY YOUR SIGNS AND WONDERS TO THE WORLD IJN
  • I RECEIVE THE MANTLE OF BOLDNESS TO CONQUER THE DEVOURER AND EVERY EVIL MACHINATIONS IJN

I read an article that made a comparison between victims and victors. I have summarised a few points and related them to scriptural journeys. The victim believes the whole world is against them / The victor believes the whole world needs them.
“As Pharaoh approached, the Israelites looked up and saw the Egyptians marching after them, and they were very frightened; so the Israelites cried out to the LORD. Then they said to Moses, “Is it because there are no graves in Egypt that you have taken us away to die in the wilderness? What is this that you have done to us by bringing us out of Egypt? Did we not say to you in Egypt, ‘Leave us alone; let us serve the Egyptians?’ For it would have been better for us to serve the Egyptians [as slaves] than to die in the wilderness.” Then Moses said to the people, “Do not be afraid! Take your stand [be firm and confident and undismayed] and see the salvation of the LORD which He will accomplish for you today; for those Egyptians whom you have seen today, you will never see again. The LORD will fight for you while you [only need to] keep silent and remain calm.””‭‭Exodus‬ ‭14:10-14‬ ‭AMP‬‬
The Israelites were suffering in Egypt. Life was practically unbearable for them and God sent Moses to go deliver them. One thing they didn’t anticipate was a process. And this is a victim mentality. There is a fear to embrace change, so right at the point of their departure, they forgot the God that had plagued Egypt and spared Goshen. They forgot the God that killed all the firstborns in Egypt and preserved theirs, they forgot the God that made them find favour with the Egyptians just before they departed.
They instantly started revisiting their lives in Egypt and would rather have gone back. At that point, it was them against the world,, Moses became the source of their problems because it was easy to blame him.

  • OH LORD, REPLACE ANY GARMENT OF FEAR AND DISMAY WITH CONFIDENCE IJN
  • ACCOMPLISH THE FINISHED WORKS OF YOUR SALVATION IN MY LIFE AND CIRCUMSTANCE TODAY IJN
  • OPEN MY EYES TO SEE THE PLACE OF VICTORY THAT YOU ARE LEADING ME TO IJN

The victim sees a challenge as an obstacle /The victor sees the obstacle as an opportunity

“Then they came to the Valley of Eshcol, and there cut down a branch with one cluster of grapes; they carried it between two of them on a pole. They also brought some of the pomegranates and figs. The place was called the Valley of Eshcol, because of the cluster which the men of Israel cut down there. And they returned from spying out the land after forty days. Now they departed and came back to Moses and Aaron and all the congregation of the children of Israel in the Wilderness of Paran, at Kadesh; they brought back word to them and to all the congregation, and showed them the fruit of the land. Then they told him, and said: “We went to the land where you sent us. It truly flows with milk and honey, and this is its fruit. Nevertheless the people who dwell in the land are strong; the cities are fortified and very large; moreover we saw the descendants of Anak there. The Amalekites dwell in the land of the South; the Hittites, the Jebusites, and the Amorites dwell in the mountains; and the Canaanites dwell by the sea and along the banks of the Jordan.” Then Caleb quieted the people before Moses, and said, “Let us go up at once and take possession, for we are well able to overcome it.” But the men who had gone up with him said, “We are not able to go up against the people, for they are stronger than we.” And they gave the children of Israel a bad report of the land which they had spied out, saying, “The land through which we have gone as spies is a land that devours its inhabitants, and all the people whom we saw in it are men of great stature.”‭‭Numbers‬ ‭13:23-32‬ ‭NKJV‬‬
I have read the first two verses to help us see the potential in that land. Two people carried a cluster of grapes on a pole. Must be a lot of juicy grapes. Not only that there were other fruits available. The victor in the group, Caleb, saw opportunities. The victims in the group saw the size of the occupants of the land and concluded that they were unable to possess the land. Again they had forgotten about the mana they had eaten for many days without fail, they had forgotten the pillar of cloud by day and the pillar of fire by night that accompanied them through the wilderness. They were moved by what they saw and defined this as an obstacle. We are going to take a stand in the place of Caleb tonight and pray:

  • I REPOSSESS MY POSSESSION AND TAKE BACK MY INHERITANCE IN GOD’S KINGDOM. INHERITANCE OF GOOD HEALTH FAVOUR AND ABUNDANCE.
  • EVERY FORTIFIED WALL / GIANT BETWEEN ME AND MY VICTORY BE DESTROYED IN THE MIGHTY NAME OF JESUS
  • I SILENCE EVERY BAD REPORT OF INTIMIDATION AND DOOM IN JESUS NAME.

The victim blames others for their failure /The victor takes personal responsibility for success or failure.
“So when Samuel rose early in the morning to meet Saul, it was told Samuel, saying, “Saul went to Carmel, and indeed, he set up a monument for himself; and he has gone on around, passed by, and gone down to Gilgal.” Then Samuel went to Saul, and Saul said to him, “Blessed are you of the LORD! I have performed the commandment of the LORD.”
And Saul said, “They have brought them from the Amalekites; for the people spared the best of the sheep and the oxen, to sacrifice to the LORD your God; and the rest we have utterly destroyed.” Then Samuel said to Saul, “Be quiet! And I will tell you what the LORD said to me last night.” And he said to him, “Speak on.” So Samuel said, “When you were little in your own eyes, were you not head of the tribes of Israel? And did not the LORD anoint you king over Israel? Now the LORD sent you on a mission, and said, ‘Go, and utterly destroy the sinners, the Amalekites, and fight against them until they are consumed.’ Why then did you not obey the voice of the LORD? Why did you swoop down on the spoil, and do evil in the sight of the LORD?” And Saul said to Samuel, “But I have obeyed the voice of the LORD, and gone on the mission on which the LORD sent me, and brought back Agag king of Amalek; I have utterly destroyed the Amalekites. But the people took of the plunder, sheep and oxen, the best of the things which should have been utterly destroyed, to sacrifice to the LORD your God in Gilgal.””‭‭I Samuel‬ ‭15:12-13, 15-21‬ ‭NKJV‬‬
As I mentioned above, there is a line between humility and a victim mindset. Likewise, there is a line between pride and a victim mindset. Saul decided to do as he wished-pride. When Samuel eventually came. He just couldn’t accept that he had done anything wrong so that he made an excuse- pride.

  • EVERY ATTITUDE OF PRIDE, PREVENTING ME FROM TAKING ACCOUNTABILITY AND TAKING RESPONSIBILITY, BE CAST OUT AND DESTROYED IN JESUS NAME.
  • MAY FLESH NOT COMMEMORATE MY VICTORY THROUGH DISOBEDIENCE. MY VICTORY COMES FROM AND BELONGS TO YOU ALONE IN JESUS NAME

The victim is never satisfied and always looking for something more /The victor is grateful for what they already have and build upon that for more in life.Sometimes in our quest for success, it gets to a point when we feel we worked so hard and the world owes us. This is where dissatisfaction and discontentment come in. We need the Holy Spirit to help us draw that line. The truth is that nobody has everything, as long as we here on earth, we will have needs but gratitude is what keeps us happy and content with what we have. Contentment makes room for more.
“Not that I speak from [any personal] need, for I have learned to be content [and self-sufficient through Christ, satisfied to the point where I am not disturbed or uneasy] regardless of my circumstances. I know how to get along and live humbly [in difficult times], and I also know how to enjoy abundance and live in prosperity. In any and every circumstance I have learned the secret [of facing life], whether well-fed or going hungry, whether having an abundance or being in need. I can do all things [which He has called me to do] through Him who strengthens and empowers me [to fulfill His purpose—I am self-sufficient in Christ’s sufficiency; I am ready for anything and equal to anything through Him who infuses me with inner strength and confident peace.]”‭‭Philippians‬ ‭4:11-13‬ ‭AMP‬‬
The last verse is the victory derived from contentment and gratitude

  • ANOINT ME WITH THE SPIRIT OF CONTENTMENT
  • REGARDLESS OF MY CIRCUMSTANCE, HELP ME ENJOY ABUNDANCE AND LIVE IN PROSPERITY IJN. It’s not money that makes you rich. It’s your mindset
  • OH LORD, BLESS ME WITH A WEALTHY MINDSET IN JESUS NAME
  • EVERY EVIL SPIRIT OF WORLDLY ENTITLEMENT, DEPART FROM MY MINDSET NOW IN JESUS NAME

The victim lives off other people /The victor lives to bless other peopleGod has called us to be a blessing. Yes, there are times we may need help and ask for it. But remember part of being a victor is defining ourselves the way GOD sees and describes us. Some of us are blessed but would rather receive than give but the bible says, it is more blessed to give than to receive. So as long as you give, you are ‘more blessed’
“The LORD will open for you His good treasure house, the heavens, to give rain to your land in its season and to bless all the work of your hand; and you will lend to many nations, but you will not borrow.”‭‭Deuteronomy‬ ‭28:12‬ ‭AMP‬‬

  • MAY I REAP THE BOUNTIFUL HARVEST OF A GIVER IN JESUS NAME
  • MAY THE BLESSINGS OF GIVING ACTIVATE AND EXPEDITE MY VICTORY IN JESUS NAME
  • A VICTOR DOES NOT BORROW, ACCORDING TO GOD’S WORD, AS FROM TODAY, I CEASE TO BORROW IN JESUS NAME
  • I SPARINGLY GIVE AND LEND TO NATIONS IN JESUS NAME
  • EVERY CURSE OF LACK, VICTIMISING MY IDENTITY IN JESUS, BE DESTROYED IN JESUS NAME.

The victim only sees closed doors /The victor only sees open doors.Just like the scripture we read above, the victim mindset is clouded with limitations. It prevents us from seeing ourselves past a certain level. But God’s word says he will supply ALL our needs according to his riches in glory in Christ. His word says he is able to make all grace abound towards us. He says we are more than conquerors.
“The servant of the man of God got up early and went out, and behold, there was an army with horses and chariots encircling the city. Elisha’s servant said to him, “Oh no, my master! What are we to do?” Elisha answered, “Do not be afraid, for those who are with us are more than those who are with them.” Then Elisha prayed and said, “LORD, please, open his eyes that he may see.” And the LORD opened the servants eyes and he saw; and behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire surrounding Elisha. When the Arameans came down to him, Elisha prayed to the LORD and said, “Please strike this people (nation) with blindness.” And God struck them with blindness, in accordance with Elisha’s request.”‭‭2 Kings‬ ‭6:15-18‬ ‭AMP‬‬

  • OPEN MY EYES TO SEE THE HORSES AND CHARIOTS OF VICTORY SURROUNDING ME
  • OPEN MY EYES TO SEE DIVINE OPPORTUNITIES TO AID MY VICTORY IN JESUS NAME
  • OH LORD, STRIKE EVERY ENEMY OF MY VICTORY WITH BLINDNESS IN JESUS NAME

The victim is pessimistic /The victor is optimistic. The victim spreads a negative attitude to others /The victor spreads a positive attitudeA pessimist would usually have negative opinions about issues, Quick to condemn and complacent. They are victims. An optimist always sees the light at the end of the tunnel and sees good in every situation thrown at them. Not only that, optimists are quick to see good in others. They are victors. The above personalities stem from their individual mindsets. What flows through their thoughts.

“Finally, believers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable and worthy of respect, whatever is right and confirmed by God’s word, whatever is pure and wholesome, whatever is lovely and brings peace, whatever is admirable and of good repute; if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think continually on these things [center your mind on them, and implant them in your heart].”‭‭Philippians‬ ‭4:8‬ ‭AMP‬‬

  • BLOOD OF JESUS (it’s the blood that cleanses us) DESTROY, WASH OUT EVERY NEGATIVE THOUGHT BUILDING UP A VICTIM MINDSET WITHIN ME
  • BLOOD OF JESUS, BLOT OUT EVERY ORDINANCE OF NEGATIVITY IN MY HEART IN JESUS NAME.
  • HOLY SPIRIT, FILL MY HEART WITH HONOURABLE THOUGHTS
  • HOLY SPIRIT CAUSE MY MINDSET TO HAVE A GOOD REPUTATION IN JESUS NAME. (When a mindset has a good reputation, it is habitable for God to move and win)
  • HOLY SPIRIT LET MY HEART BE A HABITATION FOR VICTORIOUS EXPLOITS IN JESUS NAME.

The victim gives up quickly if they don’t succeed /The victor doesn’t quit until they succeed
Patience and success go hand in hand. Anything gotten hastily will be lost hastily. A victorious mindset knows to wait on the lord for good success.
“The LORD is good to those who wait [confidently] for Him, To those who seek Him [on the authority of God’s word]. It is good that one waits quietly For the salvation of the LORD. It is good for a man that he should bear The yoke [of godly discipline] in his youth.”‭‭Lamentations‬ ‭3:25-27‬ ‭AMP‬‬

  • EVERY ALTER OF IMPATIENCE, STANDING BETWEEN ME AND MY VICTORY, BE STRUCK DOWN IN JESUS NAME
  • EVERY DECEPTIVE SHORTCUT TO DESTRUCTION ON MY PATH TO VICTORY, BE SHUT DOWN IN JESUS NAME.

“Brothers and sisters, I do not consider that I have made it my own yet; but one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and reaching forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the [heavenly] prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. All of us who are mature [pursuing spiritual perfection] should have this attitude. And if in any respect you have a different attitude, that too God will make clear to you.”‭‭Philippians‬ ‭3:13-15‬ ‭AMP‬‬
Paul said the one thing he does is to forget what lies behind, it’s time to put the victim mindset behind and completely forget it. It is very costly to hold on to this on your journey to victory.

  • I RECEIVE THE GRACE TO FORGET WHAT LIES BEHIND.
  • I RECEIVE THE ANOINTING TO PLUNGE INTO A PLACE OF VICTORY
  • I RECEIVE THE THE BLESSINGS OF A RENEWED MINDSET
  • I RECEIVE A VICTOR’S MINDSET IN JESUS NAME

“Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors and gain an overwhelming victory through Him who loved us [so much that He died for us]. For I am convinced [and continue to be convinced—beyond any doubt] that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present and threatening, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from the [unlimited] love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”‭‭Romans‬ ‭8:37-39‬ ‭AMP‬‬

  • OH LORD, OVERWHELM ME AND MY HOUSEHOLD WITH GREAT VICTORY IN THIS SEASON OF GREATNESS IN JESUS NAME
  • CONFIRM YOUR WORD THAT SAYS NOTHING, (no principalities, powers, height or depth, death) SHALL SEPARATE ME OR DELAY MY VICTORY IN JESUS NAME.
